Have you or a friend or a loved one ever been touched by cancer? Everyday it seems that you hear of someone else being diagnosed or even worse — dying from cancer.
In 2001, my mother Linda was diagnosed with colon cancer. She is now a survivor for 6 years and doing great. Last May, our family was hit hard by this nasty creature known as cancer when Jerry, Angie’s dad, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer. We were told that it was too far advanced, inoperable, incurable and that he had 6 months to a year to live. He fought a hard fight for more than six months and we lost him in February. When my mother was diagnosed, I mentioned to my wife that I would like to ride the Katy Trail to raise money for Colon Cancer research. Regretfully, I didn’t follow through. When Jerry was diagnosed, I told Angie that I didn’t follow through after mom made it through fine and that we can’t just sit back and do nothing anymore. We have to do our part. We set out to find family and friends who share our feelings to help us start an organization that is going to be dedicated to raise money, through a Katy Trail bike ride, to donate to the fight against ALL cancers. I have asked our committee that we base ourselves under the concept of "Help Us Help You." The more people we can get to help us, the more people we are going to be able to help. Someday you will most likely, if you haven’t already, be effected by cancer... so Help Us Help You now and maybe someday a cure will be found! — Matt Bay, President of Show Me A Cure |
